IUI Cycle One Results

Unfortunately, our first cycle of IUI failed. I took an at home pregnancy test, which, sadly, showed up negative.

Only one pink line...again.

I tried not to get my hopes up this time, but knowing we had a cycle that looked promising - three good sized follicles in the ultrasound and an above average sperm sample, it was difficult not to think we had a chance of conception. Even the doctor seemed surprised that our cycle failed, as he said I responded well to the Clomid medication and had a good uterine lining.

So, for now, we are moving right into a second IUI. My baseline ultrasound looked good - sometimes the follicles that develop with the help of the fertility medicine, do not properly dissolve during the menstruation cycle, basically creating a cyst, so they want to check at the start of every cycle to make sure there are no ovarian cysts. But, my ovaries are good to go!

My doctor kept me on the same Clomid prescription this cycle as well. If a women does not respond well the first time the doctor will increase the amount of Clomid taken, but he decided to keep my dosage the same. The only difference he made was the addition of progesterone pills that I will take following the insemination. He said my history of miscarriage might suggest that I have low progesterone levels - the hormone responsible for maintaining a pregnancy in the early weeks before the placenta takes over. So, these pills will help support a possible implantation, until we are able to take another pregnancy test.

In non-fertility news, Brandon and I climbed another 13er this week, Mt. Audubon. It was about an 8 mile trail with more than 2,000 foot elevation change, and I'm feeling the effects - sore legs and butt! We were also able to climb with a friend who plays handbells with me in the Rocky Mountain Ringers, which are sadly not meeting currently due to the pandemic. But it was nice to have a new face to climb along with!

Friends climbing 13ers!

Thanks for sticking with me in this blog and supporting my journey!
